Driver
Position Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly, Full-Time or Part-Time
Reports To: Dispatcher/Scheduler and Transportation Supervisor
Position Summary:
The Driver is responsible for safely transporting clients and delivering hot meals to clients in a timely and professional manner. This role ensures compliance with all safety regulations, maintains proper vehicle operation, and provides excellent customer service. Drivers play a crucial role in supporting the health and well-being of clients by delivering nutritious meals and ensuring safe transport.
Key Responsibilities:
Transportation Services:
- Safely transport clients to and from appointments, activities, or other designated locations as per the schedule.
- Provide assistance to clients with mobility challenges, including operating lifts or helping with boarding and exiting vehicles.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of clients during transit by adhering to all traffic laws and safety protocols.
Hot Meal Deliveries:
- Pick up hot meals from the designated preparation site.
- Deliver meals to clients promptly and ensure proper handling to maintain food safety and quality.
- Follow specific delivery instructions and protocols to ensure clients receive their meals in optimal condition.
- Document meal deliveries accurately, including client signatures or confirmations as required.
Vehicle Maintenance and Inspection:
- Perform daily vehicle inspections before and after each shift to ensure the vehicle is in safe operating condition.
- Report any maintenance needs or vehicle issues to the Transportation Supervisor promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of vehicles, including securing meal containers and client belongings as necessary.
Compliance and Documentation:
- Comply with all regulatory requirements, including vehicle safety standards, driver qualifications, and documentation of trips and inspections.
- Accurately complete trip logs, delivery records, and mileage reports.
- Participate in ongoing training and maintain required certifications.
Customer Service:
- Interact with clients, caregivers, and staff in a professional and courteous manner.
- Address client concerns during transportation or meal delivery and report issues to the Transportation Supervisor.
- Act as a representative of Ultimate Care Services, Inc., upholding the company’s mission and values.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional driving experience, preferably in a transportation or delivery role.
Certifications and Training:
- Driver’s License: Valid Ohio driver’s license with a clean driving record for at least two years.
- CPR and First Aid Certification: Must be completed within 30 days of hire.
- Food Safety Training: Training on proper food handling, hot meal delivery protocols, and food safety regulations (to be completed before starting meal delivery responsibilities).
- Passenger Assistance Training: Must complete a passenger-assistance training course approved by the Board of Emergency Medical, Fire, and Transportation Services (EMFTS) within six months of hire.
- Drug Test and Background Check: Must pass a pre-employment drug test from a CLIA-certified laboratory and complete background checks as per Chapter 173-9 of the Administrative Code.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of traffic laws and safe driving practices.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs to assist clients and transport meal containers.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills to meet delivery and transportation schedules.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
- Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and safety protocols.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, drive, and operate a vehicle for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items, such as meal containers or mobility devices, up to 50 lbs.
- Sufficient visual acuity to read maps, schedules, and traffic signs.
- Adequate hearing and verbal communication skills to interact with clients and follow driving instructions.
